》 Thankfully in the Sonic Gems collection for Gamecube, they added the option to hold the X button to accelerate!(I'm confident the GameCube/PS2 Port are the first to do this but don't quote me on that), so all you have to use the joystick is for turning, whats that? Turning isn't sharp enough? Well the L and R shoulder buttons are increase the turning precision to where it actually feels good personally, and some characters handle better than others as in most racing games, so all have special abilities, Sonic can double jump making him feel nice and smooth to use, on top of that he has a decent running speed with good handle, Knuckles can GLIDE which is actually really fun to do especially on certain stages where you can skip a crap ton of stuff with him, decent speed, and similar handle to Sonic, Tails can fly but has slow run speed and decent handle, Metal Sonic is FAST but is harder to handle but can hop on water allowing him to traverse water sections, Tails Doll is top 3 slowest, can float a little in the air, good handle, and can infinitely float on water.

If using the joysyick as your primary method of accelerating, then your not gonna have a good time in Sonic R. But hows the Gamecube gems collection control? The 1 common singularity I notice many(not all) reviewers do when discussing this game's controls is use the JOYSTICK as there means of going foward/ accelerating.

》 Now lets get to the nitty gritty, I notice many people overall have a disdain for this game due to one particular thing, the CONTROLS, having recently been able to play it on a Sega Saturn instead of a GameCube recently, I can whole-heartly agree the controls where not kind to the Saturn standard controller, I can only imagine how the PC port controls. (P.S the special stages are pretty cool and always persoanlly found them a fun break from standard 2D gameplay) But overall the Gems Collection port aka ORIGINAL Sonic CD is a good time, but always go for the Christian Whitehead version which is on PC, PS4, Xbox, or even Mobile. But I have to say I just feel the game has more of a mysterious, wonderous, adventurous charm in the JP OST, so playing the game in the US soundtrack I didn't get the same feeling I did when playing the game like I normally do. One of the early boss fights with Eggman you start in a pinball machine where you have to reach to top where Eggman will be waiting, once you reach him theres strange and twisted creepy laughter playing in the back while you're fighting Eggman, admittedly younger me was quite thrown off by this, Sonic CD has more bizzare things inside of it some of which I won't go over in this blog but it's pretty easy to find if you look up a video on the game. If Sonic the Hedgehog 2(Though I perfer S3&K) is Ocarina of Time, then Sonic CD is Majora's Mask on terms of how weird and a bit creepy it is. When I was recently playing it for this blog, I never went for the good ending, but even in the remake I don't usually use the time travel mechanics, I usually see some reviewers critique how the level design is a bit bizarre compared to the Genesis classic titles due to CD wanting you to EXPLORE and actaully USE the time travel mechanics to try and get the good ending and complete it rather than just beat the game, but as for me I never personally in the slightest found any of the levels intrusive or felt that the levels were to a pain to keep your speed going, in levels like Whacky Workbench where your bouncing up and down and up and down can be very frustrating to a first time player, and it's STILL my least favorite level in the game, but overall replaying CD in it's original state, I was mostly just wanting to play the Christian Whitehead version, but Sonic CD in it's original form, looking at it solely isolated, is still such a good time for me. But we're talking about CD in it's ORIGINAL form. 》Moving on what about Gameplay? How does the original Sonic CD hold up? I constantly hear varying opinions on Sonic CD gameplay, if we're talking the Christian Whitehead remake, then Sonic CD is my absolute personal favorite Classic Sonic game hands down.
